Others have given more detailed explanations regarding diffraction limits and 
imperfect lenses.  Yes, there are some great lenses out there, but you only get 200 
lp/mm at the optical centre of perfect lenses at large apertures.  This is not what 
you usually have in your bag, and you don't use a perfect tripod you probably wouldn't 
obtain it any way.
