Hi Paul

I've had one for a year and a half (or thereabouts) and find it is
adequate. I don't try to push it past its limits and am happy with it
overall. There are better scanners, but for the $500 you paid, you'll will
be hard pressed to find one. :-)

To minimise the dust on negatives I go through a routine every time I use
the scanner. I turn it on its side, open it up and blow out the film path
with the little blue blower thingy. I the re-calibrate the scanner and off
I go. I finnd that doing that does help a lot in minimising the dust
problems. I also give the negs a blow of air as well. I don't know that you
can eliminate the problem entirely, so a bit of prevention goes a long way.

I've only started printing some of the scans I've done, so I am glad I
usually scanned them in initially at 2400dpi and saved them as tiffs.

I've had a couple of problems with the USB port losing the scanner too. I'm
pretty sure it's a VIA USB problem, not a HP problem.

Good luck with it.

Cheers
