Paul, When I had an S20 I found that all of my scanning improved quite a bit by using Ed hamrick's VueScan software. You can find it at www.hamrick.com. You can download a trial version and try it out. I was immediately sold when I was trying to scan night shots on slide film. Much better results with VueScan. I have also found that VueScan works better with my Minolta Scan Dual II than the Minolta supplied software. I would try it out before you finalize the quality of your scanner.
