Good points. Honest answer re: storage, I don't know! I wish I could consider myself a "serious" photographer. Now you are making me concerned about the way I currently store film - blind panic! With three children, there is never any fridge or freezer space.

That depends. If the film has been in cold storage and is not extremely out of date, there shouldn't be a problem. I recently shot a roll of Kodak Ektar 25 that had been frozen since its expiration date in 1995 and for playing with the Yashica 124 it was fine. I've also shot a fair amount of B&W, cold stored out of date and no problems with it either. I've also got a couple of pro packs of outdated Agfa Optima 200 on the way and will find out more about outdated color film after I shoot some of that. This being said, I don't know whether I would depend on outdated film for serious photography.
