Larry's right. Though having been a prime lenses person, I admit I wasn't all to right about that. A good zoom and a fast prime can be excellent travel combo. Alternatively, if you have specific type of photography in mind (say, when I was going to Prague for 4 days, I kind of knew I wasn't going to shoot lots of telephoto shots), you can take with you lenses for that specific purpose.
