One of the issues that I ran into recently is the way that websites need to target their specific audience. Distribution of skill level is not a linear function, especially among their audience. There are a lot of people with effectively zero knowledge, and I suspect a huge number that know just about enough to put the camera in green mode and point the camera in pretty much the right direction, who if given the opportunity would hold the camera at arms length in live view mode. When I was hanging out on the DPR pentax slr forum, people who knew the relationship between aperture and depth of field were among the knowledgeable crew, and those that could comfortably shoot an all manual camera were the technical elite.
