Just use the LX to do what you want it to do. At least, if you should ever need it's special abilities, they will be there. If you get rid of the LX, there's no way to add those capabilities into the K1000 when you find that you need them.
If you need the money that selling the LX will provide for paying the rent or feeding your family, sell the LX. Here's the most important question: What's wrong with owning both cameras?
