Chris,
Protel printing is no pain for me. I typically use either of two
networked HP laser printers and Adobe PDFWriter continuously (presently and at
my previous employer).

I don't know if you saw my other comments back a while ago (it may have
been in this same thread). Having used P99SE for the past 6 years, I just don't
know where these complaints are coming from. I have never had Protel default to
a metric sized page, never had it default to a size not supported by the
selected printer (I wish PDF Writer supported "11x17" pages instead of calling
them "Tabloid", thus requiring I reset the page size when I switch to PDFs from
actual paper prints, but this is minor). Typically print preview 'always' comes
up either on a letter sized portrait page (initial Print Preview) or the last
printer/page size that had been saved within the Print Preview file if it was
saved. So my singular complaint in 6 years is regarding Adobe's naming of 11x17
page sizes as Tabloid, nothing to do with P99SE or Protel at all.

I would have to think after years of hearing a small group of users
complain of this problem consistently, that we are dealing with something that
is not directly P99SE related. It would seem to me to be some other printer,
software, driver or operating system interference. From your description it
sounds like that list should possibly include stupid co-workers.

Subject: Re: [PEDA] Default paper size

Printing seems to be a universal pain in the butt.
I continually get annoyed because of the defaults going to Letter or B or
some other weird page size instead of standard metric A3,A4 sizes. This is
particularly annoying when creating pdfs from protel(and other programs)
and find someone hasn't fixed their default and the printer has stalled
because it can't find the odd sized Letter paper.
Windows and other programs always default to the unwanted imperial system
when installed so we have to make a conscious effort to correct default
page sizes. Many users in our company don't bother to set their pcs
correctly and of course odd page sizes abound on the net.
Being able to remove unwanted page sizes from printer drivers and page
setups would be a wonderful thing.
A printer should be able to talk to the program showing the actual paper
size inserted and the appropriate resizing (if required).

Perhaps one day....:( Maybe M$ Vista?

Chris
