Darren,

I would give you $1000 for an AD suitable machine but then I am not the
one holding the purse strings. Don't think that I think it is a reasonable
reason to not upgrade approx. 1.5 dozen machines. Not sure precisely what your
employment situation is but maybe you are another of those soles that don't
have too many bean counters to convince before you could even start to
consider/justify such an upgrade. I know, it is pound foolish, I am not the one
to convince. Although one typical oversight is the interruption to upgrade 1 -
1.5 dozen machines, the downtime and getting back up to speed time will set you
back as much or more than the actual machine did.

What can I say, some of our documentation people have 2.8GHz Celerons
w/1GB RAM and Dual 17" LCD monitors, some of our Designers have 8 year old PIIs
at about 550Mhz with 128MB of RAM and a single 8 year old 15" CRT monitor. Not
a single designer has dual monitors, a couple do have 17" LCDs because their
CRT monitors kicked the bucket within the past 1 - 2 years. Myself and my Jr.
are doing much better than that but our machines would probably start to bog on
DXP as well. At minimum we need more RAM.

Hi Brad,

snip,

wow, a $500 computer must just about make the spec these days :(

My 4 year old computer cuts it ok, and I'm well overdue for a new
machine, just need to find the time to do it, next month I think :)

The graphics card is the only issue I have to make a decision on,
looking at the Matrox Parhelia AVPe. Will do dual DVI at 1920 x 1200
plus a third monitor.
