Customers do communicate with each other and the market will realize who was offered what and it will eventually lead to a lack of goodwill for the company. Unfortunately, the bean counters do not have a button labeled "goodwill" on their calculators, so they are unable to grasp this concept.
It will be very interesting to know what prices others were offered.
