FileTree is indeed neutral with regards to SCM, but Stef and I were referring to a smalltalk api for managing the git (or other repos) in terms of doing commits, checkouts and the like ... FileTree itself isn't involved ...

Other than details, I think that most if not all of the information I plan to share is 
"disk-based SCM neutral" and applies equally to each SCM ....
AFAIU FileTree has that purpose, although I don't know if it is used
with something other than Git as a SCM.
