The question was simple, based on this fact: Red Hat can either release an
updated sendmail package for the beta, or not. If they do, the updated package
can be thoroughly beta tested (interacting with the other packages) before final
release. If they don't, either the vulnerable sendmail package will be in the
final release, or an updated but untested sendmail package will be released. The
question (of those to whom it was addressed) was which of these should Red Hat do.

I really have no idea how you interpreted my post as what you replied. As I have
no desire for this to turn into a flame war, this is my last post on this
subject. If you still don't understand my point, so be it.

P.S. I think it's great that you compiled the errata into a package; it will
prevent vulnerable beta machines. But installing this beta tests your package,
not Red Hat's. Which is fine, if they include your package in the final release.

I missed your sarchasm before, The beta should be filled with security updates, program improvements on an ongoing basis. It would allow for a more legitimate beta test. Otherwise, you will have people that are pulling from rawhide, psyche, phoebe and other sources to attempt to correct their bugs. As an example of an improvement that was made from my mostly phoebe system is the correction that was made for mc and gnome-panel. I didn't know what programs interacted with mc, gnome-terminal to cause the problem that I was experiencing. Fortunatly, the developer(s) were up on it and resolved the problem.

With a constanlty improving distribution through up2date being put forth, we would not have to hunt for interdependacies. also, bugs can be closed and newcomers would not experience the password limitations problems and other problems again.

Anyway, I am not trying to complain and to divert efforts away from developers time for improving programs. i just feel that the QA force (beta testers) would be able to test their varying hardware and applications for their use better with an autoupdated pool to choose from.
