Bill, as advised over a week ago, I *have* removed magicdev.
I'm still having the same problems. So far, I was successful in burning *one* audio CD, as for the rest, burn, erase, X-CD-Roast, GnomeToaster, CLI.... NO SUCCESS....
Have you tried wiping your phoebe install and reverting to 8.0 to make sure the CDRW hardware works? Shutting down magicdev in phoebe solves the problem for most everyone else and CD burning worked fine under 8.0.
