Correct.  Note that it's not just magicdev that does this - there are
several apps.  These have been modified to do the polling if and only
if nothing else is using the device.

The autorun feature is likely to stay in one form or another.  "Never
say never" is what we say about removing magicdev/autorun...

Supermount has different goals than magicdev/autorun.  Supermount
allows one to remove a CD-ROM, pop in another, and access the data
without having to mount/umount.  This still does not (as far as I
know) produce any event signal to the user interface that a disk
change has occurred.
