The test_noninteractive target produced a clean result for C++, Fortran and Tcl
under MSYS.
I tried running the comprehensive_test.sh script, but that failed somewhere in
the "traditional make noninteractive" step:

Not sure what to make of that, but at first there was a problem with the
palette files. I solved that by manually installing them in the right place. It
is something specific for MinGW/MSYS, as running the examples from the
command-line requires setting an additional environment variable (for the
drivers) and having the palette files installed.
Anyway, on to Cygwin. I expect that to go smoother.
