The IDE RAID of 3ware is true hardware based RAID (not firmware) and uses one drive per IDE channel, eliminating the 'shared IDE bus problem'. When it comes to IDE and SCSI based RAID systems, performance of IDE is AT PAR, if not greater than SCSI, as the two technologies can transfer data from the disk platter to the hardware electronics at virtually the same speed.
