AFAIK, all CS12-32 classes in UP DCS use gcc in Linux (or Solaris).
The new progam EEE 11 (Introduction to Programming) of UP EEE also
uses gcc and all programs are required to compile perfectly in gcc,
they are also required to comply with GNU make utility. The first
module of the course is a solid background on GNU/Linux. Every
semester, dozens of students (taking up introductory programming
courses) flock to UPCC to get a copy of Knoppix or a Linux distro. UP
EEE has long been pushing for FOSS adoption. In fact, lately I heard
they are requiring students to use Octave in EEE 101 instead of
proprietary Matlab. I hope next year, EEE 35 (Linear Analysis) will
integrate the practicals using Octave.
