Keith, right on. This is not about equal rights but special rights for certain people.
However, we reap what we sow and this perversion is predictable because of the lure of money. We the people should have never allowed the corrupting influence of income taxes, social security, tax funded charity to individuals (euphemistically called "welfare"), or the intrusion of government at any level into the sacrament of marriage. Why does anyone need the permission of government to get married? If Lance wants to marry his dog and can find somebody who will perform the ceremony that is his prerogative and he can argue his case to the devil. Eliminate all State preferences and benefits of marriage. A couple should not need any monetary incentive to be joined together by God. At the same time eliminate social security, medicare and welfare other than to widows, orphans, the permanently disabled, and children whose parents are able bodied and legally obligated to pay back the hand outs. Everyone else needs to earn their own way or rely on their family and neighbors. This might seem harsh but the deviants, the lazy, the addicts, the criminals, the promiscuous and the untalented will continue to take advantage of us if we don't establish some parameters.
