I agree with Jonathan, and had to go back and re-read your post Tommy. The words are NOT interchangable!
It is a misconception to say that we live in a Democracy. Back as late as the 1930s and 1940s, it was made clear in textbooks, that a democracy was not necessarily a good thing; that the Soviet Union and the Chinese had forms of democracy. That Americans live in a republic, where those elected by the people represent our interests. Intentinal or a coincidence that the term "democracy" slips off of those with a far left agenda these days? I dunno.
