"Okay, kiddo." Rachel agreed, reaching for the cell phone that was laying
just inside her purse and popping it open to put against her ear before
laughing sheepishly "Okay, remind me to call them when we get to the store.
Your mom forgot to replace the battery with a charged one."

<wasn't it tuffy or something like that?>

"Okay," Kat agreed. That's one call she wouldn't let her forget for sure.
She gazed silently out the window as they drove to the bakery. She didnt'
really have much to say. As they traveled she read the license plates of
cars, to occupy her mind. Some of them were funny and other just ordinary,
but it was something to think about. When they arrived, she hopped out of
the car and walked beside her mother into the bakery.

A pleasant looking woman with gray hair stood behind one of the large glass
cases, on filled with a variety of cookies and donuts. "May I help you,"
she asked pleasantly.

Kat glanced at her mother and then looked up at the woman. "We need some
cupcakes with snails on top."

"Snails," the woman asked raising an eyebrow and looking at Rachel.

Kat nodded, she didn't really like it when adults did stuff like that. Her
mom was standing right there, if what she said was wrong, why would her
mother just be standing there. But adults did it all the time, as if kids
couldnt' possible know what they were talking about. "Not real ones, just
decorations that look like them."

"Oh I see," the woman said smiling pleasantly. "And how many would you
need? Would a dozen do?"

Kat turned her eyes to Rachel, she had no problem with lots of cupcakes, but
since her mom was the one paying she thought she better not answer that.
