Can you get an antenna in a good location?  (GPS probably won't work in a 
machine room.  Too much EMI.)

Does your system have a real serial port?  A PPS signal on a modem control 
signal is the normal low-cost way to get timing info into a PC.  Real serial 
ports work much better than USB.

Are you willing to do some soldering?  You can get Garmin GPS-18x for under 
$100.  It comes in 3 versions.  You want the LVC.  There are probably other 
similar parts available.

You can get a Raspberry Pi and GPS hat for ballpark of $100 after you include 
power and case and SD card.  I got mine from Adafruit.
