I think Richard Farnsworth (the Straight Story) is one of the few
listed who really deserves something.

I was sobbing, too. With laughter. Had to contain myself as I was
reduced
to a keening, convulsing mass wracked with the giggles. But that just
proves I'm a cold, unsentimental bastard most of the time.
And yes, Minghella should be punished for the English Patient.
Eternally.
Glad to see the Blairwitch Project overlooked (but obviously not for
any
formal reasons, though there is a fundamental flaw that keeps it from
being
anything but suspenseful).
American Beauty is overrated and cliche-ridden, adding nothing new to
the
'suburban dystopia' genre other than adolescent breasts. That said,
Spacey's performance was pretty spot-on, and Benning played a
one-dimensional shrew with a certain flair.
And I'm not a student of film, although I do editorial work for an
academic
film journal.
Contrarily yours,
Geoff
