OK, I don't ever say much around here, but here's a thought(or
two or three...). How different is Summerteeth from Wilco's
previous stuff anyway? After lisltening to it a few times(I
think it's a damn fine album, by the way), it still sounds like
Tweedy. Sure, the trappings are different, but it really isn't
that different from AM. "Box Full of Letters" and "I'm Always in
Love" - the styles are similar. I've always thought of Tweedy as
more of a pop guy anyway...even going back to Anodyne..."We've Been Had"
was pretty much power pop...and "New Madrid" could have easily been
a pop song. This may be why a lot of P2ers have never embraced Wilco
the way some others do. I don't think Tweedy "sold out," he just made
a record he wanted to make. If you don't like it, that's fine, but
anyone who thinks Tweedy has some moral, musical or any other kind of
responsibilty to alt.country is being close-minded.
