I'm trying to down load upgrades to put onto a CD and install on my OS 9.1 PTP. AppleWorks Updater.smi is giving me the same @#$%^&& message.
The other .dmg Upgrades will go onto the eMac and onto CDs for when I experiment with OSX on my other PTP with the G4 PowerLogix bd.
Spend hours down loading from an APPLE MACINTOSH SITE and nothing works.
The Graphics Converter gc52x.zip file opens into anther #$%& .dmg form.
The Disk Tracker @ upgrade comes as a .sit and when opened with Stuffit Deluxe and the "save as a self installing app" is selected, it saves as a .sea suffix and works fine. THE ONLY @$##%^ ONE, I might add.
The Adobe Reader upgrade downloads as a: AdbeRdr60_DLM_enu_full.dmg.tgz
Last month every thing was great, now things are as screwed up as DOS. There was no warning, I've read nothing in MacWorld or MacAddict about this. I am going to eMail Buzz at MacWorld about this.

I've had no problems with .dmg files in OSX. But this is on a G4 dualie. I"If you expect perfection from people, your whole life is a series of disappointments, grumblings and complaints. have not tried to put OSX on my PCP. Could that be part of the problem?
Netscape has nothing to do with .dmg files. It's like downloading an .exe
file and wondering if Netscape has anything to do with why it won't function
on a Mac. HTH

recently, Greg & Rachel Olson inscribed:
DMG are typically used in osX. most os9 files will be IMG or SMI files

I too am having the same problem as Robert. I have tried everything I can
think
of to get the .dmg installer for OS 9.2.2 to work from the Netscape 7.1 disk.
How
does Toast decompress a .dmg suffix? JEG
I have down loaded, Adobe, Apple and Stuffit Deluxe upgrades and they
are all with a .dmg suffix. What is this crap. When I try to open one
I get a "this program is not compatible with your system. My system is
OSX and OS 9.2, whatsss happeninngg?
Tried my computer dictionary sites and Computer Encyclopedia sites and
nothing comes up. Some with Sherlock.
