I have a HP Laserjet 6M monotone (with Appletalk card) that I love . Had it since 1997 (The same year I bought my PCP240). Just replaced the toner cartridge last month. The most trouble free, dependable computer peripheral I've ever owned. Even more so than the Apple Image Writer II (with Appletalk card) bought in '86 ... that still prints my checks.
INKJETS? So far, I've spent over $140.00 on GENUINE Epson inkjet cartridges and have printed less than 20 color images. I did read the Epson manual and after wading through all the Windows 1888 to XP jargon, noted that they recommend turning the printer on at least once a month when not using it. That may be the cause of some of the problems with the Photo 820, as during the winter months, when I'm out of state, it sits for 4 months.
Perhaps I'm getting senile, but by the time I get the digital camera all sorted out, software, cables etc ... the blasted printer doesn't work. By the time I get the printer working, I have to refresh my camera procedures. Can't get enough repetition time in, to burn all the procedures into my brain. If this was a Triumph Motorcycle, I'd have it playing "The Eyes of Texas" or "Dixie" by now.

Epson printer cartridges have some sort of mini-microchip on them. Most of the non-Epson vendors use old recycled cartridges, but some of them are not able to reset the "out of ink" part of the chip. This is indicative of a poor refill. I always have bought my cartridges from www.think4ink.com and they ALWAYS work like new Epson cartridges. Toss the cartridge and buy new ones. See if you can get a refund from 123 inkjets.
BTW, the Epsons all print better than the HP's. I have had both and can attest to that fact.
