List vs. Forum

I think for GIMPS it was a trade off. I am subscriber to the list and an
active participant on the forum and I'm pretty sure that GIMPS has
gained at least 10 times as many participants through the forum as it
has lost through the inactivity of the list. While George is much too
polite to say this, list-only GIMPS participants now form a small
fraction of the project. For GIMPS the move to the forum has been a good
one.

The list was the primary mode of communication in the years past and has
historical importance. But it is time to move on. The forum has been
around for seven years now so it is neither new nor immature.
