I have exactly the same setup, except for the OS. I use WinXP Pro. I don't
have that problem you're getting. The speed using USB 1.1 port is just as
fast as printing using Firewire port. None of that 18 seconds lag. So, at
least we know that you don't need a USB 2.0 or Firewire card.

Win 2K is a possible cause though. XP is known to be more friendlier to
external devices, although I still like the stability of Win2k better.

That's all I know about that issue. Hope it helps you diagnose the problem.

PS: Do you have the printer ICM profiles? For some reason I only got one
profile, it says "Photo Stylus 2100/2200". No paper type. As I understand
it, I'm supposed to get a couple of profiles for different papers.
