Not sure what the max height is but the antennas are designed to radiate
outward not upward so you would certainly expect the cell range to be less
in a vertical direction.

Another consideration is the maximum speed at which mobile phones will work.
It's different for each technology but for GSM is about 250Km/h. At height
the effective speed to/from the base station will be lessened by the height
and of course in a helicopter you can easily slow down or hover.

The last consideration could be additional interference from neighbouring
cells which might occur at height.

Sorry there are no straightforward answers to your questions and to be
honest perhaps the only way to be sure is to give it a go.

Does anyone know whether or not there is a celing above which a mobile will
or will not work (2k feet for instance) ? If anyone has anyother tips about
