Jonathan,
I did charge him $30/h for an hours work the other day - a price I feel is more than competitive for a freelancer. The thing is that he does get Photoshop tuition from elsewhere (books & also some kind of 'adult education'). He is pretty much Photoshop illiterate, but good in picking up things. I wouldn't mind giving tuition to him on a regular basis, or maybe a 3-4 day intense course. (I am thinking of organising weekend courses for photographers anyway).
But in this case, I feel a bit like he just wants to use me for some real specialist knowldege and then get back to his book.... it's a bit like "walking into your local camera shop, getting a feel for that latest digital camera & then ordering it on the internet".
Best wishes Bjorn

I'm just such an animal as your possible client and, whilst I do call friends and colleagues occasionally for one-off problem solving, I would never dream of asking for long tuition sessions without offering to recompense them, either financially or with work in kind.
If you're going self-employed, one of the hardest lessons is charging friends and acquaintances for the work you undertake. Best to learn it fast. <BG>
In short, charge him or walk.
Alternatively, tell him to join Prodig...! ;-)
