The flood gates have opened, everyone and his dog sees that they can be a photographer, and there is very big money pushing this tidal wave...."egged" on by the Lord Lichfields, etc.

I have no problem with good photographers who have left it late to embrace digital working, but what I do have a problem with is those on the fringes who do not have that commitment, and who are perhaps more likely to undermine the industry with sub standard work and poor business ethics.

Thank you Richard for backing up my sentiments entirely. I have been misquoted today by several respondents who have not bothered to read what I actually wrote, or try to understand where I'm coming from as a trained, qualified photographer of 21 years. I'm glad I'm not the only one here who understands what enormous loads of shit are hitting the fan at present. Some of the respondents apparently feel that burying their heads in their individual sands of (I assume) success, are perhaps missing the fact that we are all likely to have our feet swept away by this huge mediocre digital tsunami of "I can do that" mentality.

We can pretend that if you're really 'ace' artistically that we will never really need to worry about low key cowboys or corporations which now utilise their own staff, but this is simply not reality, everything is price driven and this means quality corners will almost invariably be cut. It is funny how other members of this list can say something is not true, or is not happening, when so many of us as professionals have experienced exactly the same issues, (and 8 professionals have replied off-list in support of my statements FWIW).

If it's not happening to you then bully for you, but the reality is happening to most of us 'ordinary mortals' and it is not, as is arrogantly assumed by some, because we lack artistic or creative integrity!

Thanks again Richard for your sensible contribution,

Best wishes,

Glyn
