I'm not sure I can answer your specific question... But one point to note
perhaps is that laptops seem not to be designed for use 'on the lap' any
more! I was surprised recently when a family member purchased one and there
are so many fan outlets on the base that it has to be used on a solid base
to allow airflow.

Dear Nij

Excellent point but I wish the remedy were that simple because the laptop is used on a clean worktop.

A friend had a hard-disk crash on an old PC recently - it behaved erratically but I hoped to be able to copy its contents off to another machine. It ran scaldingly-hot (presumably, some sort of failure of the bearings???).

This one has only done a few months of occasional use and always ran hot. It was when I asked Mike a few weeks ago that I became concerned when he confirmed no such problem with his. Naturally I took action straight away, but am not pleased that the Toshiba service centre have returned it twice in the same overheating state....what can they be thinking! No I know the answer to that <G>

Cheers Richard
