Perhaps it is done under the pretentious, "If you have to ask how much it
is, you can't afford it.", thinking.  My thinking is, "If you can't provide
even a base price (optional packages are fair game) then I may not bother
calling someone."  In fairness, even though VMware does put pricing on their
site, it is still a bit confusing to me with all the options and base app
requisites.  I found chatting with their one Sales Rep to be very helpful,
and plan to call him a few more times to make certain I am making a good
investment decision on their ESXi/vSphere solutions.  I do not need their
Big Kahuna options, just the bare essentials (ESXi Server, client interface
to manage the ESXi Server(s) and guest machines, and backup/data recovery.
For me the high-availability and ability to manage all ESXi Servers with
guest machine migration and single point updates is not necessary.  I am
glad they offer those in layers, but it is still confusing.  I am glad it is
not just me that is confused by it all.  But, I am also getting a better
handle on their terminology as I get deeper into their apps.
