Like with any electronic device which seeks to optimize battery life, PTR1 
has its own battery. 
The old APH and NLS devices use old custom NiCad batteries.    Even if 
they worked with PTR1,  which luckily they do not, they would give you 
much less battery life than the battery shipped with PTR1.  So,  let us 
stop bemoaning the end of the good old days.

Rather,  it would be useful if nori and the other friendly folks at 
Plextor placed information about purchasing PTR1 accessories in a easy to 
reach web page.  The info is there,  but is very difficult to find.

Would this battery pack be the same for some of the American Printing 
House
equipment or the National Library Service ones?  Surely, these folk 
realize
that with an internationally available
 product, they have to make arrangements for the
availability of  extras over the entire market.  The whole thing sounds 
odd
to me.
