Hi.
You asked
Can the ptr1 read plain text or HTML files?
The PTR1 cannot read plain text files. It cannot read standard HTML files.
The only HTML files it will read are those containing data about audio Daisy
books.
You asked
Can you access links to
other HTML files on a CD?
No.

Also, I want to purchase memory for it so I
can start taking advantage of that feature right away, but I find that
there are two types of compact flash memory -- compact flash and ultra
type II compact flash. Which one is the one supported by the PTR1? I'm
assuming the regular compact flash.
The regular compact flash memory will work fine and, to the best of
my knowledge, there's no reason to buy the Ultra Compact Flash cards (if
anyone knows differently, I'd be grateful to hear about it, but I understand
that these cards have the advantage of speed, which the PTR1 doesn't really
use). Keep in mind that you'll need to buy a compact flash to PCMCIA adapter
if you buy compact flash memory. The PTR1 has a PCMCIA slot, not a compact
flash slot. These adapters are available from $2-10, so they're not a great
expense, but you will need to get one. You can also buy PCMCIA hard drives,
like those from Toshiba. These usually have a larger capacity than the
compact flash cards (the most popular one is 5 gigabytes), and you don't
need an adapter to use them.

Hello listers.
I've just ordered my Plextalk PTR1 and am very excitedly awaiting its
arrival. I have been enjoying monitoring this list and learning from
it. I do have some questions, however, and I hope that they are not
repeats. :-)

Thanks very much for any and all assistance.
Best regards,
