Hi Dilwyn,
For my part, I use QXL.WIN with nothing but a few trial files in the SFA
device.
I don't think you're alone in this respect. I used this extensively
before I wrote the qxl.win driver, but don't use it now.
Backuping up my "smsq/e" drive which is just one large file is so
convenient.
It might be an idea to write a simple conversion utility you can use to
copy and change the file header, although the simple way out for users
is to copy all files into a QXL.WIN before upgrading, and after the
upgrade copy them into the new SFA device's folder.
Well yes, that's what I thought one should do. A file conversion prog
might be overkill (speaks the lazybone).
Another idea for SMSQmulator, although I am a bit afraid of what
Wolfgang would say for even suggesting something which would cause this
much work (!),
What I'd say? That you can suggest anything you want....
More seriously, that's not on my agenda right now.
is a device which can read a Qubide format hard disk. I
think some people had used flash memory cards in Qubide QL systems, as
at one time there were IDE interface memory card readers. Provides a
means of getting large numbers of files to the emulator from a "real"
QL, rather than have to create dozens of QL disk images.
I'm a bit daft right now, but how would that work?
Use the rebel interface with a memory card and then plug that card into
a PC?
What would a "dir" from a PC find on that? One large container file?
Many small files? Nothing?
If, as I fear, a dir would show nothing (oerhaps because the PC thinks
that the card isn't even formatted) then there practically no chance
that I'd touch that. I'm not sure I could even if I wanted to - I don't
think I have raw access to devices from within Java, I can only get
access to files, which supposes a valid file system.
So don't hold your breath...
Woflgang
