The rationale behind your JVM decision should put you apart from option
5, I guess. I would prefer to let users make their own choice, like any
other good browser does, while stepping from simple but sensible
settings: CSIZE and different colours seems the most adequate options
(they are readily available and are the QL standard way of doing it) and
surely allow for the most common combinations. There are other font-size
like issues, such as document colours, and I believe they should be
addressed the same way, if possible (that is: propose simple solutions
and let people change them at will).

Bottom line: unless a significant and widespread shift in visual display
occurs (and ProWess should be the obvious candidate) I would welcome and
prefer a browser with a distinctive QL look!
