suexec changes user, so it will do that.

What ftp daemon are you using? As far as I remember proftpd had an LDAP
module, which in theory would let you run qmail-ldap, courier and ftpd
out of the same data source.

I'm busy working on LDAP based config (same as qmail+ldap+control) at
the moment for Apache v2.0...
