Bob, my supposition is that there's always a "crisis" in amateur
radio. Do you recall a time when folks were generally happy about the
hobby and there were zero threats to its continuation? I didn't think
so. :-)
Yeah, I do! It was 1958 and I was in the 9th and 10th grade.
KN3DCB, the Novice, and later that year K3DCB, the General.
There were three crystals, 3704, 3725 and 3743, a Globe Chief 90A and a
Hallicrafters SX-99.
We had no threats in the Novice band, and when the General came in the
mail, plugged a cathode modulator
into the Globe Chief and life was good!
The ARRL is probably doing what they think (key word - think) is best.
Will they destroy Ham Radio? Probably
not .... at least in my lifetime and I have maybe 30 years to go if I'm
lucky.
Are there things that irk me in Ham Radio? Yeah .....
Are they going to stop life as I know it? Naw ....
Will all the pactor and digital stuff take over the CW bands? I really
don't think so. And if they step on me,
I have, sitting to the right of the K2, a box that will most likely make
me a helluva lot louder than they are as I
politely ask them to refrain from operating on the same frequency that I
am on!
