Selectair mattresses only adjust the hardness and temperature of the bed.  It 
would definitely be a step up from your foam mattress.  The air beds that are 
being mentioned by others here are low-loss, which typically are prescribed 
overlays or complete mattress systems.  I could see a low-loss on a Selectair 
being quite comfortable. Don't confuse this with a sleep number mattress...
