I have the version without the CD -- the cost was like $1300 back when it was bought!! (worth less than a hundred now) I had to do something. But no one cares, and _no_one_ will reply.
What is it that no one will reply to?
And I've said this same thing before, and no one has replied. I've got _too_many_ problems with it (since it's about 10 years old). Can't boot on system 7.5.1 or higher!
There's a 20 odd year old classic here that boots 7.5.5 :-P You've posted to this list 5 times since the start of the year, this post and 4 regarding the 010, 050 (doesn't exist) and the 060, all got a reply.
If it has a 040 it will boot OS8.1. I'm guessing 7.1.3 at the other end with the right enabler would boot and all the point marks in between
It's the only Mac I have, and the non-Mac I haven't seen for more than a year now (sent it to HeLL ) >( The limit for RAM is 36MB, which should be the same for both of you guys!
The only screamer I see... IS ME.
Mixing medication by the sounds of things, has anyone tried a 64mb stick in one of these? It wouldn't be the only mac who's specs where written up before bigger simm's where available, a total of 68mb would be handy.
The only reason why your PowerMacs would be going any slower is that they're emulating 68k code (usually the speed ratio is about 1:4 for a G3). Get Fat binary or PPC-native apps, and a PPC only Operating System -- OS 8.6, or somethin'.
8.1 is a dog on a powermac, 8.5 is a big improvement while 8.6 makes it stable. The larger memory requirement can be awkward one older ppc's.
Products like Speed-Doubler fill the need for better 68k emulation, so much less than perfect code allowed third party products to fill many such gaps in the classic OS. For example, Speed Doubler improves file transfer and disk speed when used on a 68k machine.
I doubt the ratio is 1:4, the G3 here handles straight 68k code without noticeable difference.
Anywho, have fun.\
