Yes, unfortunately QC's OpenCL patch only includes cards which support images. This developer forum posting shows how one would find out if your card does support images through code: https://devforums.apple.com/message/330159
After a brief search, I haven't been able to locate a list of capabilities that each card does support for the Mac, but there must exist such a list. I honestly don't know whether that could be fixed in a software update, but it's always my job to ask folks to write up a bug whenever there is an issue :) I know the OpenCL team is very responsive.
