Hi George,
i use a very simple comp with the openCL info patch to test it :
<OpenCL Info.qtz>

Here the ATI 5870 is not recognized....

Here is the result with an ATI 5770 on an other MacPro :

And with a MacBook Pro :

Not that easy because The ATI 5770 is recognized as a compliant device and not the ATI 5870...

JeanMarc

Along Troy's line of thought, are you trying to tell if you have OpenCL devices by using the OpenCL Context Info patch? That works fairly well.

I've had some odd warnings on installs of either QC or OpenCL not being supported on GPU's while doing installs on mini's and towers. In each of those cases, after restart, everything started working as expected.

I'm sure Troy's solution/link for determining of the GPU is compliant is robust, but I can't look at it. Is there any chance the solution could be posted on list?

Yes, unfortunately QC's OpenCL patch only includes cards which support images. This developer forum posting shows how one would find out if your card does support images through code:

After a brief search, I haven't been able to locate a list of capabilities that each card does support for the Mac, but there must exist such a list.

I honestly don't know whether that could be fixed in a software update, but it's always my job to ask folks to write up a bug whenever there is an issue :) I know the OpenCL team is very responsive.

Hi,
I've recently installed an ATI 5870 in a MacPro with 10.6.5.
The card works very well with openGL, nevertheless it is not recognized as an OpenCL device in Quartz Composer.

I've tried to re-install 10.6.5 to be sure the correct drivers were there and also tested the card with 10.6.4
with the last Graphic update without success.

is there a limitation with this card and the MacPro 3.1 regarding OpenCL support ?

Thanks for any help,

JeanMarc Noel
