Along Troy's line of thought, are you trying to tell if you have OpenCL devices by using the OpenCL Context Info patch? That works fairly well.
I've had some odd warnings on installs of either QC or OpenCL not being supported on GPU's while doing installs on mini's and towers. In each of those cases, after restart, everything started working as expected. I'm sure Troy's solution/link for determining of the GPU is compliant is robust, but I can't look at it.
