Will check m-audio out and will let everyone know what we do with the midi.
The usb appears to be mostly for transfer internal songs and so on, not sure
aboutt midi and to be honest, not sure why really, I'd prefer to take the
route you're referring to below and use the actual midi connectors, perhaps
it's because I started with them in the 80's and the unit has them.
I must say though the more I play with this piano the more I like it, it
really does has some nice sounds and they work beautifully in combination.
Very much looking forward to sequencing a little with them, <smile>>

Get yourself an M-Audio MIDISport Uno. Best less-than-fifty-bucks
you'll spend. It has the required in and out cables you connect to the
corresponding jacks on the back of your MIDI piano. And yes, there's a
device driver for it for Win7-64, but it's not the one that comes on
the CD in the package. It can be obtained from the M-Audio site in the
usual manner. Their site is very accessible.
If your piano uses USB as its MIDI port, there is doubtless a driver
from Yamaha which you'll need to install, then a standard USB cable
will provide the hardware connectivity.
Now, about this external audio card ... I'm presuming you want that
for playing softsynths, yes? I've had great luck and gotten good
results from the M-Audio Fast Trak Pro line of audio plus MIDI boxes.
Of course, the better your computer--that is, the faster, the more
processors--the better results you'll get from your external audio
card.

musicsoft won't interface with it by the looks.
3. if standard midi to usb , what are your favourite midi interfaces and
why?
4. has anybody used an external sound card with a laptop like this with
midi
capabilities, if so, what's your favourite and again why, I'd love to be
able to justify buying a nice new external sound card, <big smile>.
also, least favourite and why?
In simplest form what I'd love to be able to do is use qws as my primary
sequencer hence the reason for the message being on this list.
This probably won't be for too much in the way of giggs any more just home
playing.
