Yes, the only time quantize is a sure deal is when the tempo is constant. AS a general rule I think you should add tempo events only after you make sure the track events coincide with the metronome at a constant tempo. And for dealing with rhythm tracks. With drums, you can quantize them with a very small swing setting. I've gotten some really nice grooves by just quantizing a rock patern with a swing of about 6 or 7. The high hat was playing with pretty fast sixteenth notes so that is probably why it worked so well. and with jazz you can get away with larger swing settingg, which is a must if you absolutely have to quantize. I think the biggest things in jazz not to quantize are the guitars and pianos since they are so percussive. But everyone thinks differently so naturally will have different codes of what is morally right and wrong to quantize LOL.

Quantization isn't a filter, it's a modification to the track's note values,

For ritardandos, I'd suggest using a tempo change instead of quantization.
On a broader scale, quantization is good for fixing note flubs and the like
and if your rhythm isn't the best, but especially for percussion tracks
don't quantize everything. If you want realistic rock drums, for example,
quantize everything except the hi-hat, as that's where most rock drummers
put their feel elements. For jazz don't quantize the ride cymbal. This will
make your tracks sound more realistic.

That is the question. I want to bring a song to a graceful rittard, but the
quantization keeps getting in the way. Is there a way to turn it off, even
for selected beats in tracks?
