Only reason I ask is because he seemed to change his instrument on his

Yes. Have you read the manual or listened to the audio tutorials yet? Those
will answer a lot of questions, and though I know the instant gratification
stuff is fun, it does help to really have a good idea what the program will
do for you. It's a lot more powerful than many folks think.

Okay, a few quick questions:
What do you have set as your sound source? You have inserted a track
and selected a sound, right?
You have the keyboard turned on before you start QWS, right? I've found
it doesn't always like it when you turn something on after you launch
the program.
Have you got things set right in your ports?
What channel is the keyboard transmitting on? This shouldn't be a
problem with QWS, but it can be good to know.
Is the MIDI Thru activated in the MIDI menu?
