Mike:
You do not have to have an internet connection for the software to "call
home" it can simply dial a (800) number through an available modem and phone
line, this is how many software packages were registered in the pre-internet
days...
You can also disable the "call home" feature (maybe this feature is disabled
or not available under this program), I have mine set up to prompt me before
it send anything; however, I have found it helpful, on a couple of occasions
when the system crashed, I got a diagnostic back that pointed to a video
driver and instruction how to get an updated one; in my case, it solved the
problem quickly and efficiently. Just my $0.02

  It is licensed material, valid under the terms of the license and you
should know better about the phone home crap.  Any of the software will
operate without an internet connection (activation can be done in person
over the phone by you), so the only way it could phone home on its own,
unless Microsoft has taken over another of the acronyms... ESP ...  ; - )
