I personally like fenders sometimes and dislike them at other times. I also
dislike putting them on and taking them off, particularly since I prefer and
generally use metal fenders which bolt on. So I arrange my fender life, much
to my satisfaction, by having bikes with fenders and bikes without. My
commuter has fenders as does my grocery bike. My gofast will never be
tainted with the egregious complication and huge weight and gross
aerodynamic confusion of fenders. My 29er can't take fenders very well (TCO,
and the only fenders that are at least 60 mm wide are far too short to be
really useful) so it doesn't get them.

The be-fendered bikes keep their fenders year 'round even though we are
deluged with no more than 9 inches in the average year. (Much of it comes
down in torrents.)
