Another thought about 1.6.6. ...


I was just talking with a colleague about this rule, and she mentioned this
interesting point:  there are titles that use a single letter in a large
font, meant to be read as part of more than one word (and not necessarily
the first letter of each of those words).  The rule specifically states
"letter or word" but the example only uses words.  So let's look at a
made-up example (since I can't really take the time to find a real-life one
at the moment).  Let's say there's a resource that really intends its title
to be "The Wonderful World of Widgets".  But they only have one large "W"
in the title on the preferred source of information.  According to the
rule, it should be transcribed as "The wonderful orld of idgets".


ICK!


This principle really needs to be thought out a little more...
