Thomas Brenndorder quoted Julie:

>I am about to catalog a Weight Box, which consists of a wooden box
>with 6 pairs of wooden cylinders ...

This kit fits the AACR2 definition of "realia" no more than it does
the one for "kit". It is a real what? It's not a rock, telephone, or
what have you. These are pieces in a kit.

When no AACR2 definition fits, better use the GMD which more nearly
matches patron expectation, whose understanding if "kit" is nearer
Webster's than AACR2's. Like RDA's definition of "computer", the
AACR2 "kit" definition is in a very narrow context, and differs from
normal word usage.

When the letter of the law is counterproductive, better to observe the
spirit of the law, which is label things to assist patron
identification.

Yes Thomas, RDA's "object" is better than AACR2's "realia", and a
single weight might be considered an object. But collectively, they
are a kit; "kit" is needed as an RDA carrier.
